IH was working on a new series of tractors before the merger. Yes, it only had a left door. Yes, the door opened the other way. Yes, they put the throttle on the right console. Since the Magnum was based on the IH tractor it makes sense that they used the cab. Below are a couple of pictures of a 5488 with the new cab they were working on.
