| I am going to echo Pofarmer's comment about starting time. NOW! I believe you should be starting peppers 6-10 weeks (or 8-10 weeks?) before you are ready to set them out. I believe 6-8 weeks is good for tomatoes. I think maybe a good rule of thumb would be to start peppers about 1 month before you start tomatoes. I've gone to using Hydorfarm seeding heat mats to get my plants started. they help provide a wamer climate, especially for plants like peppers and tomatoes that like it warm. You can find them by Google, but I've bought mine thru Amazon.com. If you look at the link, you will see there are 3 different sizes - the correct size will depend on how many plants you intend to start at one time. I started tomatoes seeds on these mats last Saturday, and the first ones were up in about 5 days. For tomatoes, I think that is good. I think the ads say these mats will increase the soil temp about 10 deg F above the ambient air temp. So, if you are starting seeds in a slightly cooler room, then I would really encourage the use of something along these lines. |
