| At First I thought their Calculator was very much lying, but finally after correcting one of my Mathematical errors I realized their Calculator was not so far off. Once I used the correct Formula I was able to figure out their price per ton not including spreading, but yes including deliver to the Farm is covered by their retail profit margin of $40.00 per ton or more.
If a Dealer that dishonest blends pellet lime with Potash can you trust him to blend it correctly or is her really using pellet lime as a Filler. Considering the fact that the real cost of Pellet lime to the Dealer should be less than $80.00 per ton and Potash costs over $400 per ton.. what is keeping the dishonest dealer from using more pellet lime and less Potash.
I watched a dealer cheat me on micro nutrients one time.. he added 2.5 bags of Micros... but the .5 was more like .25 plus they make 100% margin on that anyway. If I ever use micros again. I will insist on full bags not an estimated amount.
In My Area TSM mix was $15.00 per acre for 15# 15 years ago. If they make 100% on that it adds another $7.50 per acre profit for them. Plus the pellet lime was $100 per ton that long ago with 100% mark up. Not counting the Potash. they could make. $7.50 per acre on micros $7.50 per acre on micros and $4.50 per acre on application. That is $19.50 per acre gross profit to fly across the field in their nice new Floater truck.
Then today when I spread lime for $5.00 per ton at 4000# and $6.50 per ton at 2000# the Farmer says I am over charging him at #2000 per acre. The Fertilizer and pellet lime was being applied at a 500# per acre rate. | |
