Northeast Indiana (Auburn)
You will never regret going with Geothermal. I have four years now with Geo and electric backup ( it has not been needed the last three years) and the system has paid back the extra money in lp savings already. I have a five ton unit with a five hundred foot long trench with three 1,000' loops. I priced a heat pump system with a lp backup which we would have to use about three months a year due to my location. The price of the loop was the only difference in cost of the two systems. What I like about the Geo system I have is I leave the fan on all the time thus you have slow moving air which helps to keep the house at a even temp with no cold or warm spots. It you had a forced air system before you would get a blast of hot air when the furnace is on. You won't have this with a Geo system. My extra cost in electricity has averaged $720 a year. I was using an average of $3600 a year in LP.
