Northern Indiana
I have a router on top of a grain bin.. Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 cranked up with Tomato linux firmware. and 12dbi omni antenna. Great system, works solid. We ran 110v to the top and found a nice waterproof box on L-com. This setup is hooked into a fixed wireless connection from our isp. But my point here is, I still use an access point / repeater setup in the house and in the shop. Like was pointed out, you can't have antenna cable near that long (less than 10ft is best), and there;s no way the antenna can see your laptops signal through steel. Its a two way street.
