States printed there own currencies until the late 1800's. I don't see there being any constitional issues stoping them. As a practical matter it would be a very high hurdle too clear. And don't think for a miniute the fed would not be looking to make a example out of any state that tries this. remember the fed will stop at nothing to keep there power.
