middle TN | We had a '78 2440 that my father bought new. It was his main tractor for many years, supplemented later by a 666 IH, and later yet with a 4230 deere. All of us kids learned to drive on the 2440, it did everything. It had over 12000 hours on it before a bolt was turned on it. A loader was installed in about 1988, and it spent the rest of it's life here loading and feeding round bales and silage out of a bunker into a mixer. The tach was long since broken when the engine was toasted moving snow in 1993. The tractor was pretty much used up, so it went down the road. Fast forward to 2007, I bought another 2440, an '82 model with hyd pto clutch, also with a 146 loader. It is a little hard starting in the cold weather, but I still use it to load the bale wrapper in summer, and haul all hay to the mixer year-round. I gave about 3/4 of the price you are looking at from a dealer, but it needs paint, and was missing the side screens. They are, in my opinion, a good tractor.
