Crawford County, Robinson, Illinois | Delmarva Ag - 3/5/2011 10:00 Customer wants to sell his John Deere 2440 tractor with a Model 146 loader. 5200 hours original owner, well maintained for $10,500 or best offer. I am not familiar with this model. What is the loader capacity of the front bucket? Any pros or cons of this particular tractor model? I'm looking for something to move round bales around and lift into round bale feeder. Any thoughts good or bad are appreciated! Alan
I have a JD 2440 with a 146 loader, and also a IH 656 with a 2050-A loader. Each has their better points. The 2440 is easier steering, a bit handier to drive, but lacks hydraulic power compared to the IH 656 Utility with loader. If I try to lift something heavy, I always use the 656, but the 2440 is almost as strong. Both handle round bales well, used them a lot for that purpose. The 656 will start in colder weather if you use the glow plugs and have good batteries, the 2440 starts fine if the engine block heater is plugged in for a while, how long plugged in depends on the ambient temperature. Both are excellent small utility loaders, for farm use, but don't lift high enough to load a truck well.
You will like the JD 2440 for the uses you claim, and the price is fair but not cheap. I know my 656 would sell for much less than the JD, I have seen them on lots for half of that. |
