| Riding back from organ procurement in the back of the ambulance I noticed that the mileage on the ambulance was 385,000 miles. I asked the driver and team if this was the original engine. He said absolutely. He said they abused the Powerstrokes on the road, but "babied" them in regard to service (he said that their huge ambulance service literally had 24 hour mechanics on duty). He said that with a little care they ROUTINELY took their Powerstroke diesels over 400,000 miles. I don't know how old it was. He said they put over 500 miles on them nearly every day.
That is why there are more Powerstrokes on the road than comparable Cummins or Duramax diesels combined.
Every time I see a post on here about Powerstrokes I am always amazed at the whining. I was figuring I must be the luckiest guy in the world since I have basically had zero problems with my 1999 for >100K miles. The ambulance guys say they wouldn't have anything else.
I am not posting this to start some kind of war. I am just letting the rest of you Powerstroke owners know that despite what you read in this forum, things are still okay.
