| The premier transmission for many applications, not only in ag but many other sectors as well. Remember, there are countless ways to design a continuously variable type transmission, so they are NOT all created equally. AGCO's, which came to them ala the acquisition of Fendt, is a great transmission for a number of reasons. Mechanically, they are so much simpler than any powershift and even other CVTs. Fewer moving parts, gear sets are in constant loaded state, no clutch packs, can be smaller in size for easier packaging, and has its own dedicated oil supply. These are all very solid design attributes. From an application standpoint, the engine and transmission can communicate to ensure peak operating efficiency. In effect, the transmission can deliver the correct speed/reduction ratio all the time without having to "pick" from a finite number of gear sets and combinations. Now this is most easily realized in a draft situation but even the versatility and convenience putting around the yard is nicer. | |
