Northeast Louisiana | If you're a farmer using the truck seasonally for short hauls, name really doesn't matter. The components such as engines, trasmissions, and axles are generally made by sources outside of the manufacturer. Trucks are spec'ed by the original buyer, and that's what really determines their performance, regardless of the make. The specs like engine horsepower and gearing are much more important, as is the condition of the overall truck. I try to buy the cheapest trucks I can find that are still in good, useable condition. Don't care at all what they look like. All of mine are International, btw.
If you're planning on being in the trucking business, or if you are worried about resale value, then brand can be more of a factor. If you're planning to hire a driver and keep the truck rolling all year, then you'll be better off buying something the driver will like, so you can retain your driver. Truckers are notorious for jumping from one company to the other just to drive a nicer truck.
