| I don't really know who to like anymore. The days of buying an appliance and it lasting 10-15 20 years are long gone. That kind of quality is rare and while you can find an occasional one that defies the rule, its rare.
We have had a washer need a new motor, control timer within 3 years of new. Dryer needed new bearings and guides within 3 years of new and a $1000 refrigerator quit 3 days over 1 year old. These were all name brand appliances on the top end of the price scale, not cheapos.
A friend who works in appliance repair gives this advice. Buy the cheapest appliance and the best warranty you can afford. Its not going to last so be covered for the time you have it.
I have never been a fan of extended warranties because i always felt that if it's not going to last longer than the 3-5 years of the coverage then i wouldn't buy it, i would buy a better appliance. I have rethought that theory of late as i don't think there is a "better unit" that will last out there.
