Northeast Louisiana | The only sheilds we have off of our 2388 are the spreader drive sheilds, as described by Unit 2. We've taken them off of every axial flow combine we've ever owned, back to the 1460. Other than that, we leave all sheilds and screens in place. Yes, you do need to clean them off every once in a while, but we blow our combine off pretty frequently anyway to reduce chances of a fire.
BTW, that's a good idea on the zip ties, I'll have to try that one.
