Brinkley, Arkansas | The longest line we run is 2.5 rolls. We routinely use it to pipe water from a well to nearby rice fields (less than 1/4 mile). The drawback to polypipe is that it really can't go very far uphill. They do make differnt thicknesses of pipe to handle more pressure. On a downhill slope I guess you could hook 3 or 4 rolls together if necessary but a run that long would probably require bigger pipe. I know they make it in 18" and 21" which I believe come in 1/8 mile rows and are quite expensive.
Our wells vary in size from 500 gpm to 2000. On the smaller ones we'll use 12" pipe and 15 on most anything over 1000 gpm.
It's very simple to connect to your wells, you just have to get the outlet to ground level by using a "Z" pipe or a faucet (hydrant, hoghead whatever you want to call it) on a riser. Then we'll roll back the last few feet of pipe to get it double thick and clamp it on with a 30" hose clamp. I like to use the hose clamps rather that big zip ties because they can be taken off and reused if you need to hook a different run to the outlet. | |
