Subject: Ch75 timing gear housing crack-question

The challenger 75 I have cracked the timing gear housing (aluminum) that attaches to the front of the block. The crack is in the ear where the alternator bracket attaches. Tried repairing it, but am going to have to replace it this next week. The previous owner had this happen two times within the last 1000 hours, with Cat replacing it both times (he paid for the first one). The alternator seemed to be vibrating too much to me, so I replaced it's pulley, made sure it was lined up with the other pulleys and changed the belts. I also checked bearings when I replaced the pulley and they seemed o.k. The crank damper was changed about 2500 hrs ago according to records. Wondered about it too. The fan had no slack when I checked it also. Seems to roll just fine.
My question is have any of you experienced this problem? Any ideas on things we should check? The guy from Western States will be helping me do this (figured it might help the "warranty" that way).

Thanks
Art
