I think a lot this extra gears and similar stuff are just gadgets and hooks to sell new trucks. Gotta have a new one with more power, more gears, more gadgets. Marketing department at work.
Gear Vendors is the outfit that makes the auxiliary over or under drives that you can add behind the OEM transmission. RV folks use them. http://www.gearvendors.com/
