Subject: How long before....

South Texas
...I can buy a 2 speed axle in my dually? Would that help? Apparently it's a huge help with larger trucks or they wouldn't be available. Heck, I can see using my current normal ratio for towing and use tow/haul, but for cruising without a tow, that cummins shouldn't have to run 2000 rpm to make 70 mph. Just wondering...
OBTW, have been doing a little pulling with it. (It's the last of the 5.9L without the latest EPA stuff.) It's about maxed out at 24K gross. At 70 mph it gets an honest 9 mpg. Seems with the high cube I'm pulling (aerodynamics about like pulling a 2x4 through the dirt crossways) each 5-7 mph of head or tail wind will hurt or help about 1 mpg. Will see how it does next week on a TX-CA trip.
Take care. Stetts
