Galahad, Alberta
A lot of guys around "here" use it as a tool for managing their harvest window. Bring crops on quicker in order ot get more done in the harvest window. Obviously, there is a savings in work by combining the swathing and threshing operation. I like to desicate all my cereal crops, other than what I need for seed, to keep the land clean for the following canola or pea crop. If you try peas, you'll find they are poor competitors and allow problem weeds a free year to run wild. Thus the need to burn them off the fall before. You can also straight cut higher than what you would normally swath, but you have to be very careful not to create a problem for seeding the next year.
