Subject: Re: Farmers in CA -- diesel emissions regs coming to old engines

The paper I saw had these major points:
A: All Tier 3 engines
B: Under 1500 hp total per fleet to be exempt
C: Individual engines under 25 hp or less than 100 hrs per year operation exempt:
With some work ,we can get under 1500 hp. One spreader will have to go into the boneyard, and some specialty equipment might have to work some loooong hours to get under 100. I am also going to look into the possibility of a separate LLC. for the orchard/vineyard side of our operation. As for out of state, a Texas almond growing outfit here (swag on my part, more than 10,000 acres) has never registered a pick-up in CA. All their tractors, etc have Texas dealer stickers on them. They also insure their on road equipment in Texas. It seems like a big out of CA operation can get away with it.
