Subject: RE: Try without?

South central, Nebraska
I purchased a new set of Air Design scrapers for my old planter this spring. I don't remember for sure if it was a mandatory step or not but, they mentioned grinding off an area of the gage wheel arm to clear the scraper. I thought mine looked like they had enough clearance as I was installing them so I did not notch them out. My mistake! I tore a couple up right away. I then took all them off and ran the whole season without any scrapers at all. I do not have my wheels set tight to the blades, just very close. Maybe got lucky but it worked very well that way.

We were very wet here all planting season. I even have a bit of gumbo soil that will stick to anything like stink on feces. I never had any problems with the blades building with soil.

I think the Air design scrapers are very good. I really like how they mounted but I didn't see any benefit from scrapers this year.
