Southwest Illinois | It depends on the configuration a bit. If you are just running the small reel behind the disc plus either the bar harrow or the small basket/harrow conbos I would think you would want 8-10hp per foot in tough unworked soil. If you have the stalk chopper I would think you'd want at least 10 hp per foot. Obviously previously worked ground takes somehwat less. We had a 30' 6432 that we pulled with 300 hp tractors with the small reels and for the most part we alway had plenty of power to run 7mph or a bit more. The key is these machines take speed(7+ mph) to make them perform at their best. If I recall the 8420 is in the 230hp range. I'm sure you could make a 31' model work, but I bet you'd be much happier with a 25-27' size. | |
