Subject: Welding diesel storage tank

I have a 500 gallon steel tank that has a small leak around a welded in fitting, do I have to do anything special to weld this since the fuel won't flash. There is probably 15 gallon of fuel left in the tank. I just want to weld a couple beads around the joint to seal it up. Is this safe.
