Subject: RE: Has anyone backed out on a grain contract??

Many years ago, one of the dry years we had, I'm sure it was 1980, I called an elevator in KC that I had beans contracted with. I asked what they were paying for new crop beans. They guys response was "do you think there will be any?" I said I was worried about that and told him I a contract with them for however many bu it was. I asked how it could be handled. He told I could pay them so much per bu on the contract. That's what I did. I don't recall how much it was but I think about 25 or 30 cents per bu. We did finally get a rain that made the beans make a little something seems like they were in 15-20 bu range. I sold the first I cut for about a dollar more than my contract price was.
