No, you don't need to dessicate if you want to straight cut wheat. I've never straight cut barley or oats so I can't speak about that. It depends what your weather is like and what kind of bin storage you have. If you have even land where the wheat ripens fairly even and you have lots of aeration capacity, no spraying is required. Unless you're going to be cutting soybeans, peas, or chickpeas, don't get a flexhead. A rigid header will work just fine in cereals and will be cheaper and alot easier to maintain and operate. Just my opinion.
