SW IDAHO | if you are not picky about brand, there are many options to be had. Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbuilt, they will all do the same job if they are equipped the same. Streching an over the road truck will cost $3,000 to $4,500, depending on the shop. Many sleeper equiped trucks are probably long enough if you remove the sleeper. To make things easier, take measurements on your old truck for reference when shopping. you need dimensions for overal frame lenght, back of cab to trunion ( trunion is the center of tandem suspension) and trunion to end of frame. With these measurements you should be able to talk to any dealer or truck salesman and be understood. These measurements do not have to be exact but will give you a place to start. Many trucks on the market today are what they call "fleet trucks." This just means that they probably not as fancy, but will do you a fine job anyway. Don't be afraid to look at as many trucks as you want bfore buying one. There are many options out there if you are willing to shop. Another thing to consider is suspension. Some drivers will tell you air ride is great, others swear by spring ride. Both have up and downs, both will do the job. Try not to look hard at price first. Find the truck you want, the truck that is giong to do the best job,and try it. A couple thousand dollars now can make a big difference over many years of use. Good Luck Kenny | |
