Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning. | I'd urge you to look a bit closer. Notice anything different than most disks? Even though the disks are the largest you could get at the time from IH, the spacing is the smallest you could get. The dealer said the disk wouldn't work with that combination, but it was ordered like that and we assembled it ourselves. Close spacing and large diameter disks make for a tool that cuts off weeds without having to work spool deep. I'm trying to hold depth at no more than two inches and coming pretty darned close, I think. That particular feat coupled with killing most of the weeds is not possible with many disks. So the question really becomes how much water the weeds will use in the two weeks they're waiting for the RU to burn them down & how much moisture is in the top two inches of soil. While we're on the subject of conserving moisture, you might ask yourself how deep the ground would dry if left undisturbed and allowed to crack; as opposed to creating a dust mulch on top that will seal off most evaporative losses. Again, the disk is a last resort tool. When I feel it is useful, it gets used, otherwise it stays parked. |
