Southeast MN | I wish my dad had made me wear hearing protection, cause I have ringing sounds now and it had it's start back in grade school on open station tractors.
For my kids, when they tag along to the range, they wear muffs. I do a "test" by clapping my hands once or twice near their ears and judge their reaction and what they tell me if the muffs are seated properly.
Once the got a bit older and want to sit at the bench with me, I let them try plugs so they can get closer to the sights. Plugs seem to be easier to install.
Most of the farm noises, I try to keep them far away from. Usually can't be watching them and working with the noise at the same time.
They learn by example too, it's pretty neat to see my 7 year old go grab his goggles and toolbelt when it's time to pound nails or "chop" weeds with his plastic ax. | |
