Subject: It's not like that... ok well maybe... no not really...

Alberta, Canada
Tim, it's not like that. Right now I can use either a 9 foot haybine, or a 16 or 18 foot swather to cut it. I do have the intention of purchasing a discbine, but am unsure of which way to go. My JD salesman has been trying to demo us a 956 MoCo for several years now, and has reminded me a few times lately now that we've got the bigger tractor with IVT. Agco salesman just plain wants to send out as many demos as he can, and both the NH and CIH dealers have offered demos lately as well. I know absolutely nothing about them, have only ran a 9-foot Hesston a couple years ago, so don't have a clue which is the better machine, have heard complaints on everything. Now that we finally have a reason to own one, I figured this would be an opportunity say, here, it's a small field, who wants to bring one out, I'll try them all, then we'll go from there. However, we'll be making silage out of this crop, so we don't really have time to worry about buying it while I'm trying to get it baled and into the plastic. I'd rather just take my mental notes during the demo, and decide on options etc in two days, after we're done with silage.

Cliff, (long) drying time is not a problem for us, as we'll be making silage with it.

Roy, all our demos are due to us interested in actually purchasing said model.
(the only demos we didn't purchase) We did demo a TV140 while our other tractor was in the shop, dealer didn't want to sell at the time due to the 1998 models being horribly problematic, but we were interested. Also demoed a CaseIH MX135, but purchased a NH TM instead. Demoed a TS135A and wanted to purchase it, dealer even came out to do the paperwork, but there was several problems with that machine in particular. They took it back to fix it, it was to come back within a week, or another one sent out, never did. 4 calls to the dealer and they never got interested again until after we demoed a 7520 and 7720 in the fall. Never demoed anything from AGCO because we really weren't interested in them, but have turned down several offers. Now the salesman says that he's bringing the baler out with a tractor, that we might as well put some hours on it and see what we think, even though I told him we weren't considering a new tractor for a while since we just got one. That's up to him.

Jason, that's probably what I'll do. It's not really a big deal if it doesn't finish, I can use the haybine or swather *shudders at the thought of the slow speed, for silage* but I just wanted to get an idea what the average demo on one is, since I remembered Gerard cut 100 acres with that triple mower unit, but obviously there were special considerations for that.

Right now I'm thinking I'd be interested in either a Hesston 3315 (15'3") or a New Holland 1441 (15'7") for the discbine. The JD 956 MoCo doesn't appeal to me very much.

I have heard of a 20' Taarup discbine... too big for us, but that's the biggest I know of.
