Subject: Why arbitrarily restrict the process?

Colby, Kansas
"at the farm journal Corn College, they suggested creating management zones from yield maps using equal points or area (ex. 30 acre field with 3 zones would have 10 acres each)"

What was their reasoning/support for this recommendation. Why would you arbitrarily preselect the size of a management unit without any regard for any data or knowledge of that fields spatial variability.

If this is in fact what these folks are teaching to people, I think they are doing a disservice.

There is lots of software that will do what you suggest, but my bigger question is why?
