Subject: More

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have since obtained a Trimble support note that addresses this situation. The note seems to suggest that the unit is actually ON and functioning but that the screen is difficult or impossible to read.

The note indicates that upgrading to a newer version of the firmware may help or to move the tractor to a "warmer" location. For example, if the tractor was in a cold shed, moving outside might help.

This may explain why turning mine ON/OFF several times got it to display properly on a couple of occasions.

My brother ran this tractor this Spring and didn't complain about this problem. Turns out the reason was that another worker told him to just leave the EZ-Guide 500 on over night so that it would be ready to go in the morning. Since all our planting was done pretty much continously over a 9 day period, the EZ-Guide 500 was not shut down. Thus he did not experience the startup problem.

I'm still unsure of my unit actually has a problem that needs attention but its screen behavior seems to agree with the support note.
