ECKS | We have a lot of experience with this. If you plan to plant corn, I hope you killed it in the fall. The guys in our area that have tried killing it in the Spring and no-tilling corn have not had much luck. As for soybeans, much easier. The best way that we have done it is let the fescue grow and green up. We let it get about a foot tall and then we mow it and bale it. In our area, this would be around the second week of May. We then let the fescue green back up and spray 2 qts of Roundup with 2 lbs. of AMS. It will smoke it. We then wait for rain. We have found that the best time to plant into fescue sod is about a day or so before you would plant on your normal ground. Make sure you innoculate the beans also. I would up my rate about 20% also. The sod ground tends to dry out fast and we don't want to miss the moisture. That is "here" and we prefer to plant the majority of our soybeans in the last week of May. You may have to adjust for your area but we have had some very good yields by doing it this way. We have used planters as well as the 750 drill but I prefer the planter. | |
