it sounds like you have made up your mind and are making a well reasoned decision based on your circumstances.
that said, did you look into working with a different certifier?
I'm not sure what options are available to you but 2 years ago we decided to switch to a different certifier that was more open to working with a research farm.
I am sure your record keeping was challenging enough but imagine the paper trail for an organic research farm... with in some cases more than a dozen different varieties or products per field... some of which have never been sold commercially (or OMRI approved).
Things are a little easier now but I am lucky to have a research technician who is very organized.
