Subject: You really wanna know where it's heading??? Warning Rant Let Loose!!

Earlton Ontario
Back to conventional....that's where.

I'm fed up with marketing and politics and slow delivery and slow payments.

Organic Prices "here" have not kept pace since 2007 and when a guy does land a fair price for the organic, he get docked and discounted all to rat $h!t.......What a joke. In the end after 4 years "certified" organic I grew half the crops for about the same market value as conventional crops......when I take out all the discounting and guys who failed to pay.

Another thing bugging me is the nazzle-stiff nerd that comes out to inspect my farms every year and tell me how many dandelions I need to save in order to retain my organic status. I'm sick of inviting this guy to my farm to be told i'm doing everything very-well, than get sent a list of recommended improvements from head-office which will be followed up on the next visit...or risk losing organic status....improvements which have nothing to do with the well-being of my land...nor the sustainability of of the organic system...I asked the guy this fall if he'd be happier if I sold my farm equipment to go and buy a few teams of horses to work the land and fenced in some wild hogs for livestock...Then get sent a bill for a couple thousand bucks here and there to justify their cause. He even charged all us farmers he visited in the area for his gas/food/lodging. YES we all paid the tab....so his lodging etc was paid 5 times...... I can understand charging mileage divided up evenly between all the customers, but to charge us each the same full for all the above is robbery....And he knows it, but he sits at the end of the kitchen table holding my organic certification. One recommendation was to buy Cal-Phos from Florida.......Can somebody tell me how smart and "organic" and "environmentally friendly" it is to spend $4000 on diesel fuel to truck organic fertilizer from the southern tip of continental USA to the 49th parallel???

I believe in stewardship and soil health, I believe in cover crops, I believe in passing my children something better than I started with. BUT I also believe in economics, true capitalism and of course COMMON SENSE....

I'm going back to round-up and UAN this season....And it's NOT because I didn't try...Many of my organic neighbors feel even more strongly than I do....because they remember the good days of organics before it became corrupt.

My Rant for the month!
