Subject: EZ-Guide 500 won't always fire up

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
My EZ-Guide 500 occasionally has the habit of not showing the display. It is hard wired to a toggle switch.

Powering on this lighted toggle switch supplies power to the EZ-Guide 500 and Trimble Autopilot. The lighted toggle switch always lights up and the autopilot LED always lights up but sometimes the EZ-Guide 500 appears to be dead. Even when the EZ-Guide 500 appears to be dead the lights on the external keypad are lit as would be expected if the unit was powerd ON.

This happened to me when I first installed the unit. I put it in my truck using the orginial power cable and it started right up. I then put it back into the tractor where it seemed fine most of the time.

If I shut the toggle switch On and Off several times and watch the LEDs on the EZ-Guide 500, eventually the LEDs will do their walk of death as they do in a normal shutdown. After this happens the EZ-Guide 500 will fire up the next time power is applied.

I do this with the tractor running so I don't think it is a voltage issue and we have had no other problems with the tractor electrical system. I am thinking that the EZ-Guide 500 is actually on but not showing the display.

I guess I should hook an external device to the GPS out port of the Autopilot harness to see if the EZ-Guide 500 is outputting GPS under when it appears to not start up. This should tell me if the unit is actually

This is with the latest firmware 1.01.17. The problem occurred with the original firmware and now with the new.

Anyone else experience this situation?
