No I can say that is no longer an issue. This unit is much more stable as an operating system. It is advisable to back everything and I do. One of the nicest features of the Recon is its 15 hour battery life. Even though I have yet to push it to its limits, battery life is nolonger an issue with me. My gps reciever has its own power source, wired directly to the atv, so I don't have a lot of battey draw down from the gps. OH, I need to tell you about my back up power source. The Recon has an optional power source as a back up, you can get an additional battery module that take two standard issue AA Alkaline batteries, and this will give you additional 8 hours of battery life. I just always keep that in the truck just in case my main battery would lose charge. I talked with the folks at TDS about battery life and the tech said as long as the battery is always topped off after use it will give years of life. The longest I have ever run on battery is two full days of use, and took the charge down to about 1/3 charge. Like I said before it has yet to miss a beat.
The biggest issue I had with the iPaqs were the terminal connections, either on the cabling or the iPaq it self. I found they would not last and give my fits, lose connection or just become so lose that it would fall out with the vibration of the atv, the reason for the electrical tape and/or rubber bands. The recon has a 9 pin serial connection with jack screws, just attach the 9 pin from the reciever, problem solved. But these are just my experiences with this kind of technology, I have consultant friends that say they will buy cheap ipaqs all day for what I paid for the recon. But the piece of mind that I have knowing that my equipment is going to perform we I need it to, is worth the price to me. Besides what I spent on the recon, was actually cheaper than what I paid for the 3 ipaqs plus all the addons. I only wish I purchased the recon first, I would be that much further ahead. Have a great day.
