No. Its a rotary knob on the left side of the dash. You use it to set the speed of action of the PowerReverser, from very gradual to very quickly. If you buy the tractor without it, and find the "one - speed fits all" action of the PR not to your liking, the variable speed option can be added on later.
The 24F/24R transmission is the same as the 12F/12R, except with the addition of buttons for two-speed powershift ( for "inbetween" speeds) in any gear. Like the electric torque amplifier in CaseIH.

The speed of the power shuttle in the New Holland TN series can only be changed by the dealer plugging in a computer to reprogram it. When I got the JD I let my neighbour, who drives a TN75 and was a former dealer, use my tractor and he said the JD has a better system.
