Subject: RE: John Deere 5325

I have bought a 5325 in Oct. 2005 and have been very happy using it daily, now with 1063 hours on it. I've drove other people's 5310s and 5320s, but JD has the controls arranged in the 5325 to be just perfect. (I have the straddle model due to low doorway clearence issues, the isolated platform has a different set of controls that is the same as the cab model.) I'm still impressed at how well the electric shuttle works at any speed or throttle position. You might want to get the variable speed shuttle option, less then $200 extra. Last year a larger (and much older) tractor broke down in the middle of 4x4 round baling, had to use the JD. Now I won't switch back. No clutch or gear changes necessary to stop and wrap twine, and I don't have to move the throttle off of max PTO speed. Just use the shuttle to click from neutral to forward again. No jerk, and starts ahead gradually even at high RPMs. Faster baling and more hours worked without tiring = more bales rolled up before rain.

My only beef about the design is that the single or double hydraulic remotes don't have a dedent position for constant pressure, for hydraulic motors or wood splitters ( IH has had that for over 30 years). Only available with triple remotes (big $$$$), and cannot be upgraded without changing the whole setup. Cheaper to buy a new gas-powered woodsplitter then upgrade the remotes for a 3PH style.

My only mechanical problem was last summer when the manual primer pump on the fuel filter started to leak like a seive, but we just used the tractor anyways. JD mechanic came into the field to change it out inbetween loads of hay, dealer covered it under warranty.

Only other problem is that the operation of turn signals is all screwed up, but the hazards flash fine. Maybe it's due to the calves chewing the wiring....
