SE SD | We built a 40x40x14 with laminated poles. Basically the poles were three 2x6's glued together to form a pole. The bottom six feet or so were pressure treated to prevent decay with the joints, where it changed from green treat to regular lumber, staggered to maintain strength. Couple advantages, bottom part is more likely to resist decay cause the green stuff gets farther into a 2x6 board than a 5x6 pole, also they are straighter and more likely to stay straight than pole. Disadvantage, cost more. I think they are just as strong if not stronger than regular pole. We tried to tear the left over pieces apart at glued joints and couldn't do it. | |
