Subject: RE: split ratio gear box

Rock County, MN

If I have the prespective right you're not losing torque with large tires it is that the larger tires require more torque to do the same work.

Makers of equipment cannot exceed known parameters when configuring gear ratios to torque ranges because the traction media (dirt) will not provide enough grip and the tire spins, hence the larger tire to spread the load of the driven wheel.

Maybe we should think seriously about gear train ratios when spec'g equipment. There is such a thing as a split ratio gear box; you may notice in you trans there is a predictable sound to the exhaust if you shift up through the gears. With a split shift you will notice one or more gears seem to be longer or shorter than the rest because a specific ratio was desired for that speed/rpm working sweet spot- just saying.

Split ratio - meaning within the hi or low range
