Get the newer 36 hole drums with the blank dimples in between if you don't already have them or fill the blank space with weather stripping. You have to get the drum to turn nice and smooth.
Another trick is to put springs or I used tarp straps on the chain tighteners. That way the chains always ran smooth.
Key to the planter is everything needs to run smooth.
Don't apologize for having a Cyclo. They can be just as good as most newer planters.
