Subject: RE: Seed spacing?

Central Iowa
I would second everything already said. I have had good luck with rounds, but flats seem to plant alright also.

I would add several things;

1. The condition of your seedbed can make a big difference, things such as down pressure, row cleaners, Rebounders can help a lot.

2. Drums, either the 955 "dimple" drum, or the strips as already mentioned or the metal bands that make the drums completely smooth (these are what I use).

3. Speed, I have been known to drive as slow as 3-4 mph (ugh) in no-till or ridge-till corn on corn.

4. Chains, replace any chains that look the least bit susupicious. I'm pondering whether it would be worth it to replace the drive wheel double pitch chains with single pitch chains. Anybody tried this?

All the above mentioned things have made a big difference for me.
