Subject: Re: Snow Geese

Fayetteville Arkansas
I saw an estimate that one deer eating on young soybeans (couple of inches in height) will do $3,000 dollars worth of loss to a field per year. Rice farmers here hate geese with a passion as millions of dollars are lost from the "plucking" of young plants. When you walk around in a field that has been hit by a flock it is amazing the total amount of crop damage the birds can do. Here in Arkansas we will soon start the conservation season on the snow geese and we're allowed to shoot unplugged guns, use electronic calls and have no limits on the harvest amount. You can literally shoot a pickup bed full of geese everyday and it doesn't seem to slow them down at all. Overgrown rodents are what most of the farmers have termed them here as well. The second major problem with them here is on golf courses.
