Subject: RE: PWM or Raven Fast Valve

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I'm one of those who recommends the PWM valve over the Fast Close Valve. We have had rigs out with the Fast Close Valve where we have swapped them out for the PWM valve because of the "hunting" problem to get back on rate.

I don't believe we have seen problems with debris plugging the PWM valve. It is my belief that the PWM valve can be damaged by running the oil through it "backwards". This is possible if the hoses are not marked or the operator activates the hyd in reverse. An anti-reverse plumbing arrangement can be made with a check valve and a couple of tees. The check valve is placed between the hoses and in normal operation prevents flow between the hoses. This arrangment is sometimes referred to as the "H" pattern. If the hoses are hooked up backwards or the operator activates the hyd. in the incorrect direction, the oil just flows around in a loop back to the tractor.

The operator then observes that nothing is happening and investigates.
