Looking at it from the 16 year old view I wouldn't want to go either.  Considering her mother is working most days and probably long hours since she is stressed.  Folks not around much she is on her own.Does she do much housework around the place? Help with chores etc. Or is she a mall freak?

  Why ask for more. I would try to make a deal with her.   Go on the trip and she can have something special later.  I think if the right spot was chosen she would like it when she got there.  Let her help make a choice.
