Ron, It was really nip and tuck until early summer of 1951. November and December of 1950 was the low point. McArther's Headquarters quickly made evacuation plans for the withdrawal of all UN forces from Korea. Ridgeway replaced Walton Walker who got killed in DEC of 1950 and when he got to McArther's Headquarters he quickly told them that he had no plans to evacuate Korea. Ridgeway stabilized the situation. I doubt that most people realize how bad off we were in Korea. The North Koreans were beat and our Troops were looking forward to hostilities ending by Christmas of 50 then the Chinese came and ended all that optimism. A lot of the Troops didn't have winter clothes until mid winter of 1951. Presently a lot of the younger people laugh at North Korea. Not me as they are dangerous and they are very good soldiers. Jim J
