Rolla, ND | I know a dispatcher in Watford City and he told me his lowest paid driver last year got $85,000, most over $100,000. And many have nondriving jobs for their days "off" as well.
For best driving pay, need hazmat, tanker, and multiple endorsements.
That's the plus side.
Minus side. There is no place for you to live. People working on that but it takes time to build apartments too. Plus it's difficult to fit those workers someplace.
In Williston, if you could get one, the going rate and a two bedroom apt is $1500-$2000 a month. Doesn't much matter, unless you are already on a waiting list you aren't likely to get one. Hotels are rented out before they break ground. Dickinson usually has some open rooms if you check ahead. They were moving over $100 a night for not very nice rooms last I heard. Medora was going to keep open at least one hotel this winter. Might be able to get a room there for that or a bit less.
There are some houses for sale if you don't mind laying $100,000 or better on the table that will instantly disappear if oil prices tank. Told $40,000 dollar houses are $150,000. And don't figure you will just borrow the whole thing, banks are scared of what could happen, this isn't the first time for them, so you better have a chunk of change to put down.
As for building, well, the cities are trying to keep up. But sites are spendy and don't count on finding someone to build for you. Even moving a house in is logistically a problem but some are managing.
People living in cars, in tents and campers and so on. Cities kicking people out of parks and such for winter.
So if you know someone and he has a bedroom in the basement that he will let you use, get going. Otherwise, it can be pretty tough.
And the driving conditions aren't always good. It's not the weather is bad let's wait a day or two. It's go, go. And lots and lots of traffic on roads designed (or not designed) for the amount of traffic. More than once this summer the companies chained up for driving throw mud on county roads or hooked on and pulled trucks through.
So yes, very good pay. Just realize you aren't going to get to keep it all because of the costs, and you are going to go through some tough situations.
