central Ohio
Here in Ohio I was on the school board for 12 years. If you are sincere about putting in the time for the kids then go for it. You will have to be willing to do your part to provide the leadership for the community. My pay was $80 per month which only provided some extra eat out money. We hire 2 people the superintendent and the treasurer. They ran the day to day operations. As far as money goes we only had about 5% of our total budget to spend as the rest was earmarked by contracts and the state. All deceisions were easy as you did what was best for the kids and as long as that was your agenda there wasn't any complaints from anyone. We had the fortune that the state had building fund money available for us to modernize the old buildings and build a new high school. We spent a lot of time on that project but I am blessed that I was a part of it. Great experience if you are willing to put the time in.
