North Central Kansas | Served 8 years on our school board. The toughest decisions for me were the termination of contracts. Those decisions
affect families. Building issues (new or used) are difficult. There will always be financial difficulties in school districts. Sometimes the little things can add up to significant dollars. Are there employees with skills that could be utilized? Is there an artist among the janitors? Is there a person with carpenter skills or mechanical skills? These people are usually thrilled to have their skills utilized and it saves the district a lot of money.
Develope a relationship with the superintendent. If that person feels he/she can trust you, then influence on the district
will be much easier. Pick your battles. You won't get anywhere fighting everything. By all means, run. The district needs people
who are interested and dedicated.
