West Union, Illinois | willvr - Are you serious, a waitress only gets paid $2.00 per hour? or was that a typo? It varies from state to state. In Illinois the minimum wage is $8.25. However, during the first 90 days of employment the employer may reduce that by $.50 to $7.75. The employer in "an occupation in which gratuities have customarily and usually constituted and have been recognized as part of the remuneration for hire" is only required to pay 60% of minimum wage ($4.95/$4.65). I'm told (but haven't found the reference yet) an employer is required to track the tips and make up the difference if the tips don't equal minimum wage.
