I'm personally not sure I understand all the rage with vertical tillage. I understand it's kind of in it's infancy and new versions are coming out all the time. To me tillage is tillage, either you are no-till, or you aren't. I'm not trying to start any arguments cause I'm not dealing with 200bu corn on corn residue so to each his own and do what works for you. I like the homemade idea...if I was trying to no-till/min-till in the corn belt and thought about trying vertical tillage I would sure take whatever old disk I had, straighten out the gang angle as much as possible, add some weight and start experimenting with diff blades and harrows. It sure would be my first step before I spent what they are asking for these tools.
